Here's a peek at a new book on the market for second home buyers, sellers and owners. It's called the Cottage Ownership Guide, written by Canadian author Douglas Hunter. All about buying, owning and selling summer waterfront cottages. Just the word 'cottages' is already food for thought. What's a cottage, anyway? Those of you on the East Coast know very well that a 2,000-square foot place, right on the water, only used for the summer, still qualifies for the title 'cottage.' Must be a remnant from our English heritage where anything in the country was considered a cottage. So cottage doesn't only mean some cutesy gingerbread, one-room hideway.
But I digress. The book is useful for all the phases of cottage buying and selling. We agree with the emphasis on finding the right location (half the book covers that) since many people can often skimp on this process. He also covers Canadian tax considerations (of course), and topics like shared ownership and relocating to the cottage. Sounds like a book worth checking out.
